A human adult or animal is one who has grown to the fullest extent. Adults are a social concept and a legal one in our world. Legal adults and not "minors" or non-adults can be defined as someone older than the average age and therefore considered independent, responsible as well as autonomous. Also, they can be described as an "major". The age for achieving legally adulthood is 18 although definition may vary by legal rights, country, and psychological development.

When it comes to the life span of a human being adulthood is the time when a person is at the point of complete intellectual and physical maturation. It usually starts when a person reaches 21, which is the average age for adults. The middle age is approximately 40 and then it is followed by an old age of about 60. Early adulthood begins between the age of 18 and 30. Mid-life adulthood begins around the mid-30s through to 60s. Late adulthood starts at mid-60s. At the beginning phases of adulthood (between 20-40) then our bodies are at their peak of maturity, even though the weight and height of our bodies might increase a bit. In early adulthood our physical abilities are at their maximum. These include muscle strength and speed of reaction.
